The Weekly Outlook #1

Welcome to The Weekly Outlook with Isla Surf School. We will be providing a surf and weather breakdown for the week to help you target the best days in the water. You will also find some surfing news, local news, and local events in the mix.

Surf Forecast: Surf is in the 1-2’ range for the week with WSW winds until Friday when the wind will calm down. What does this mean? We’ll have perfect size waves all week for working on you surfing with semi-clean/drifty conditions until Friday. Friday thru Sunday look ideal with Saturday being the standout day with light offshore winds in the morning which will create clean conditions.

Best Bet: Friday-Sunday. Targeting Saturday if you only have one day available.

Weather Forecast: Looking like a pretty standard week of summer weather in the low country. Chances of thunderstorms each day, but nothing standing out to us at the moment besides Wednesday afternoon when thunderstorms look quite likely. In general, we recommend planning morning activities before afternoon storms roll in.

Isla Updates: We are already in Week 3 of Summer Camp and we’re coming off one of the most epic weekends of teaching conditions. Finger’s crossed for more! We highly recommend booking for this weekend if you can. As it stands, it could be a classic weekend of waves and weather.

World of Surfing: The World Surf League is currently in El Salvador for the 7th stop of the 2023 season. Finals day should run towards the end of the week with some exciting and important heats for the title run. Ian Gentil will take on Felipe Toledo in semi-final one and Liam ‘Brien will take on California’s Griffin Colapinto in semi-final number two for the mens. On the women’s side we have Steph Gilmore and Tyler Wright in semi-final number one and Carissa Moore versus Florida’s Caroline Marks in semi-final two. Who do you have? Our money is on Toledo, Colapinto, Gilmore, and Moore taking out the semi-finals with Toledo and Gilmore winning the event.

Local Events: Ziggy Marley will be playing the Charleston Music Hall on June 21. We can’t think of a better summer concert and definitely recommend going to see Ziggy if you can.
