April Events Around Folly Beach, SC

It’s hard to believe that Easter has come and gone and April is in full swing. Kids are enjoying spring break and summer is right around the corner. April is an exciting time at Folly Beach and in the entire Charleston lowcountry! With so many activities for kids and adults alike, it is one of the best times for locals to enjoy their city and visitors to get a taste of Charleston, as well. Here are some of our favorite events in and around Folly Beach happening this April:

Cooper River Bridge Run, Saturday, April 7th

The Cooper River Bridge Run is in it’s 41st year here in Charleston. The race is a 10k that begins in Mt. Pleasant, crossing over the Ravenel Bridge, finishing in Downtown Charleston. The event is weekend long affair, starting with the expo on Friday and race on Saturday morning. Over 40,000 runners are expected to take part in this year’s race, making it one of the largest in the country!

Lowcountry Cajun Festival, Sunday, April 8th

The Lowcountry Cajun Festival takes place right down the road from Folly Beach at James Island County Park on Sunday, April 8th from 12pm to 5pm. The Festival brings Cajun to the Lowcountry with Zydeco music, Creole cuisine, and activities for the kids. Admission is $15.

High Water Music Festival, Saturday April 21st and Sunday April 22nd

The High Water Music Festival is in it’s second year and will be held again at Riverfront Park in North Charleston. The Music Festival, curated by Charleston’s own Shovels and Ropes, is a two-day festival celebrating music, food and libations. This year’s line up includes Jason Isbell and the Unit 400, Band of Horses, Shovels and Ropes and Brandi Carlisle among other national and local acts. Tickets have already sold out, so if you weren’t able to land tickets this year, be sure to add this to your calendar for next year.

Charleston Outdoor Fest, Saturday April 21st and Sunday April 22nd

Obviously, we are outdoor enthusiasts and highly recommend the Charleston Outdoor Fest taking place Saturday April 21st and Sunday April 22nd at James Island County Park. The event features canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, rock climbing, slacklining, mountain biking, archery, disc golf, live music and tons more!

Joint Base Charleston Air and Space Expo, Saturday April 28th

Joint Base Charleston will be hosting an Air and Space Show Saturday, April 28th. The event will feature the latest in commercial and military aircraft both on the ground and in the sky. The main event will feature the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. Admission and parking are both free to the public with gates opening at 8:30 am.

Blessing of the Fleet & Seafood Festival, Sunday April 29th

The 31st Annual Blessing of the Fleet & Seafood Festival will take place Sunday, April 29th from 11 am to 5 pm at Mount Pleasant’s Waterfront Memorial Park. The event includes a boat parade, as well as, the ceremonial blessing of the shrimp and fishing fleet. The event also features seafood samplings from some of Mount Pleasant and East Cooper's best restaurants.
